The final days are bittersweet

So Intermezzo....unbelievable! It was definitely the perfect way to end the internship! Pictures will definitely be included on this one! The location of the show was called the Javits Center. Needless to say it was gigantic!!I had a great time helping out all of the reps and walking around to see all the other booths! There were sooo many booths! There were some important meetings with Saks Direct and Anthropologie. The Anthro girls were dressed so freakin cute! Sunday was pretty steady, Monday was out of control, and Tuesday was a little slow. I got to total all the orders at the end of the day...lets just say they done good. I modeled a bit and helped them when things got crazy. I mainly was at the front with Betsy checking appointments in, organizing people with their reps, and bringing in new accounts. The people/fashion watching was epic. Across the way from us was Rock and Republic and they had this drop dead gorgeous model although she was about 6 feet tall and 90 lbs. I couldn't stop staring; it was the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen. The last day was the greatest though. Hillary told me to pick out a pair of jeans and two tees and she'd pay for it! I freaked! Thennnnn, I wanted to order more and she gave me 50% off wholesale on those! It was so exciting!
I had a beach day with my Mom on Wednesday at Point Lookout! It was so beautiful and the perfect final beach day! We had a great dinner out too and finished the night with Carvel Cake (aka greatest icecream bday cake on the Earth!) Thursday I went back into the city for a final day of shopping! I was also able to get some great shots of Greenwich Village and the Soho area. I got some great cheap tops, some cool safety pin studded earrings (that was difficult to explain in a cool fashion), vintage levi shorts, and this gorgeous black silk chiffon grecian one-shouldered cocktail dress! I got it at Intermix, which is a designer boutique (with Missoni ponchos for $1000 nbd). It was originally $360 and I got it for $120! And I will probably wear it for the next 10 years. It's epic and classic.
I drove back on Friday and surprisingly had a great drive! Below are some exclusive pics from the showroom! More are on fb! It's so weird to be back in Knoxville, but good news I'm starting a new fashion blog soon! I haven't decided on a name yet but be checking facebook for when I start it! Hope you've enjoyed Emma's NYC Summer of Fashion!

In Honor of Uncle Bob

I'm thinking the best way for me to go through my week in this post is as usual day by day. Sarah, Jessie, and I traveled to Jones Beach on Saturday morning in hopes of a glorious day at the beach, and it was. I saw I had a missed call from my mom and when I called her back, we got the terrible news that my Uncle Bob, the uncle I had spent almost every weekend with this summer, had died of a heart attack that morning. We were all in shock. There was no other way to put it. So the week proceeded with a series of ups and downs. We went and visited my Aunt on Saturday night but there's only so much that you can do, everyone was still in shock. Also, my other aunt and uncle and set of cousins were on a cruise to Alaska and wouldn't be back til 7 am on Thursday so everything had to be postponed. We went to the beach again on Sunday but to Point Lookout and had another beautiful day and went and visited my aunt again.

Monday and Tuesday I had two great days at work and then Wednesday was my last day in the office! I was so sad! But everyone surprised me and got a TON of cupcakes and had a little party for me! I felt so happy and surprised that they would have anything for ME! AN INTERN! They were so appreciative and(Hillary was away) but Heidi came out and told me what a great help I had been and about how great this experience was for me to start with and the connections it will foster in the future, etc, etc! I was flabbergasted by how appreciative they were and Betsy told me that she had never seen any intern get cupcakes or a party like that! PS I ate WAY too many cupcakes of course to end out the day!

Then from the top down to the bottom, everyone arrived on Thursday including my brother (my mom and Jessie's bf Blake drove up on Sunday night) and we went to the Wake. I was pretty much fine up until I walked into the Funeral Parlor and it was all downhill from there. But I was surrounded by my loving family :) The Wake, Funeral, and Graveside were done beautifully. Friday night we all relaxed at my aunt's before some of my cousins and my brother had to leave this morning. The rest who were still here enjoyed a beautiful day at Robert Moses beach.

This week was a rollercoaster but I was surrounded by such wonderfully loving people. The next three days I am looking forward to Intermezzo. It's the huge trade show that's in the city where all of the showrooms and vendors set up and buyers from department stores and boutiques come to look at the upcoming lines that they will sell in their stores! If it gives you some perspective....we're booth #10,000! Although you can have multiple booths for one vendor, but still! I just found out I have to be there at 8:15.....so prolly a 6:40 train...rough. But I'm very excited to see what it's like and will fill you in soon!

Most epic week ever!

So this was probably the most epic week ever, and therefore, prepare yourself b/c this is going to be a very long blog....but a very good long blog :)

Okay soooo last weekend Jess and Dad came into the city on Friday! After cleaning out yet another back closet (the girls freaked on Monday when they saw it!) Jess and Dad came and met me at work at 1 pm and I showed them around and gave Jess the jeans I'll pulled for her before I packed up the sample sale! We then wandered around the city. I kinda got us lost b/c I wanted to show them Greenwich village and then couldn't find the street so it was kinda pointless haha but then we went back to the hotel to freshen up before dinner! Our hotel was right on the edge of Soho and Chinatown so it was a great location and quite refreshing to get out of the 95 degree and higher heat! It was also restaurant week in the city which is where all the top restaurants do a price fixe menu! I made reservations at a place called Lure and needless to say it was delish!! I got oysters and shrimp to start, seared tuna on a bed of mashed potatoes and some type of tomato with this delicious herb addition on the tuna and to finish it all off a mini chocolate cake with caramel icecream....need I say more! Then we wandered around the Soho area and had a really nice time 'window shopping' if you will.

In the morning, I woke up super early and we took the subway up to Chelsea and walked on the Highline (the place I took mom..see earlier post), looked in the designer stores in the Meatpacking District, and walked and ate lunch at the Chelsea market! It was sooooooo hot you have no idea! We went for a cool off in the hotel and then went to Chinatown. Jess and I got some knockoff YSL crossbody bags! So cute! Then we went to Little Italy for dinner and had yet another fabulous dinner! Afterwards we took the subway down to the South Street Seaport which is a beautiful area on the the water! After our quick jaunt, we came back up and went to the epic gelato place that I had gone to with Jonathon! Whew! Thennnn Sunday, we took the subway up to start of Central Park! We walked all around Central Park up the "the mall" despite the heat! and Then came out at Columbus Circle (kinda like an indoor mall) and cooled off there. Then we ventured into the famous Plaza Hotel! It was unbelievable!!! Then we went down to Rockafellar Center for a late lunch and then had to go get there bags to get them ready for their flight! It was a very exciting weekend! Except, I have to admit I was pretty stressed being the main planner for so long!

So after such a long weekend, I was hoping for a decent week at work......nope. Work was a new definition of out of control! Monday the entire spring line came in.. 3 deliveries worth of the jean, the pant, the tee, the shirt for mens and womens andddd in duplicates! Ah! We had to check in all of the inventory, hang, price, peg, and organize! It needed to be finished b/c the VP of sales from Joe's was coming the next day and everything had to be absolutely perfect! I was there til 7:30 when I'm supposed to get off a six! On Tuesday (I came in early at 9 and stayed til 7:30 again) more stuff came in so we had to do the same with that and finish up things we hadn't finished with the mens stuff. For the next two days the vp was there and the reps and her had meetings with all of the major department store accounts! I was pretty stressed trying to help everyone with everything but exciting, they had me trying on and modeling the new stuff for the buyers to see the fits and things which was cool! They also said they'll prolly be having me model at Intermezzo in a couple weeks (which is the huge trade show that I'm finishing my internship with..more info to follow)! So I was pretty stoked about that!

Thankfully, Thursday was still very busy but not quite as out of control as the previous days. Similar meeting occurred, more modeling, coffee and cookie runs, and during the down time, haha not that there was much, I helped one of the reps with line sheets and also helped write up orders, etc. Then today, I helped Marsha pack for a huge Nordstrom event in TX that is next week. (Side note: Before the vp left yesterday, she told all the reps that for the October deliveries, all of their major accounts needed to have their orders in by today! aka everyone freaked and today the girls were making a million phone calls to get the orders in and they were all required to stay today til 5 as some of them initially had summer friday where they leave at one) That aside, Betsy did leave today at 1 pm b/c her parents came into town! Therefore, I was put in her position for the day! Which was exciting answering phones and doing all of her usual tasks! I also had to write up the orders that were required to be in today....count em 46. So I naturally stayed til 5:30 with Marsha to finish.

I was very excited (how many freaking times can I use the word excited) I was very.....thrilled because Lindsay, one of the reps, told me I was the best intern they've ever had! Then, Marsha told me later that she and Hilary (my boss) said that I was doing Betsy's job flawlessly! It was so great to hear those two complements today! The reps are always very appreciative but hearing that today was just really great!

So to end the crazy week, I went to my hot yoga class :) It was a wonderful way to end to day and week to just relax and let go of everything and have a great workout! Finishing out the class the guy read a quote that I just loved so I asked him and looked it up! It's called "The Deepest Fear" by Marianne Williamson

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

Love!! And this weekend Jess and her friend Sarah are coming so get ready for more stories next week! Hope it wasn't toooo long of a post hahaha! Ciao!

If you can't find any attractive boys in NYC, take the train to New Haven.

So I started off the weekend sprinting through Grand Central to catch the train to New Haven to go see my aunt, uncle, and 4 cousins! Once I was walking thru the train, I realized that most of the guys I saw were drop dead gorgeous and once I got there all of them in the station too were just so good looking and I thought "If you can't find any attractive boys in NYC, take the train to New Haven!" haha annyyyways I also finished a new book on Friday called Wild Fire by Nelson DeMille. It was really good and I would recommend it! It read like an action movie!

Once I got there, we went to Whole Foods for dinner= LOVE! Whole Foods is a definite fav and I'm so sad we don't have it in Ktown! The next day it was raining :( but no fear Kristen and I went shopping! Their mall is unbelievable!! I could've have spent way more time than I did in there but I felt kinda bad about dragging Kris around. I bought a really cute top at a store called Madewell that is owned by JCrew on sale for $15 originally $60 get excited! I also bought a really cute red top anddd a black linen jumpsuit that has been on my list for a while! At forever of course! That night the three oldest of the cousins and I went to Cosi for dinner (delish!), then went and bought a ton of candy and watched Shutter Island! Sunday, church, then went on a beautiful walk for 2 hours through the area around their house called the Reservoir! Then went to the pool and grilled out for dinner! I took the train back early in the morning straight to work!

This week has been pretty low key at work. A steady flow of stuff to do though so I haven't really been bored at all! Last night I went to a 90 min Bikram yoga class that was epic and there were a few yogis in there that were unreal! My jaw almost dropped at a few times! I also experienced coconut water for the first time= LOVE! New obsession for sure!

This weekend I'm so excited because my dad and Jessie are coming up for the weekend and we're staying in a hotel is SOHO! I have a ton of fun things planned so I can't wait for it all to unfold and to fill you all in afterwards!

CRazzzzY busy!

(Isn't he beautiful...) Hello!!! As indicated by the title I've been crazzzzy busy! So let's backtrack. Last Tuesday night I went to the Eclipse premier with one of my intern friends, Lea! It was unbelievable of course!! I got four hours of sleep and thought I might die on my way to work but seriously had the GREATEST day and was so productive! Lea and I had a very busy day at work! I think I sat down once to eat! Then I went to my first hot yoga class...it was unreal; I absolutely loved it! 100 degrees in a tiny studio, mats about 1 inch apart! It was awesome! Thursday was pretty great too and then on Friday I got out of work at 1! Plus all the girls had like nothing to do since it was the Fri before the 4th so I was like "What can I do today" and one of them goes.."Play on the computer!" haha!

Anyways, when I got off at one I decided to go to Brooklyn to vintage shop. Betsy lives in Brooklyn so we took the subway together and then had lunch together at this vegan place at the first stop in Brooklyn. It was sooo delish and fresh and healthy so of course I loved it! Then she showed me some specific areas to explore and had to go, sadly, but I was living another adventure! So I walked all around and bought some great finds but in my fav place, the guy was awesome and really knew his stuff! Also, the people there dressed soo cool! True inspiration! Then, I went back up to Manhattan to meet Jonathon to go for a run on the Hudson! I was kinda sore from yoga (decided to do my splits at the end...) so I was struggling a bit, but the view was gorgeous and we had a great time talking!

On Saturday, I went to Point Lookout (the beach) and it was perfect of course and went and saw some greaaatttt fireworks on the boat that night! (For all of you K-towners I totally rivaled Booms Day!) Sunday, boating and went to an epic (the food) party at my aunt's neighbor's house and I got really sick :( I think I got sun poisoning/heat stroke from the boat earlier that day! Bummer. Monday more boating and pooling (I had the day off for the Fourth holiday!). No complaints here!

Tuesday I completely broke down the sample sale, boxed it all, and reorganized this massive back closet where it all goes...it may not sound like a lot but I worked on solely that all day and didn't even finish packing! Today, I had another epically busy day pulling a ton of samples for the reps and finishing out the packing and organizing, thennnn....seriously reorganized the entire showroom b/c free space was now open from where the sample sale was! Ah I was so tired coming home on the train! Good thing I got my run in this morning! Also, side note, I was 105 in the city on Tuesday!! It was so hazy b/c of the heat but thankfully I didn't leave the office all day. This weekend I'm heading to Connecticut to visit my cousins, aunt, and uncle! Excited to spend time with them! Hope this wasn't too much of an overload!

Fun Fact: Soho is Short for South of Houston St.

Hola! Boy has it gotten hot up here! Thank god my cousin came and put my grandmas window air conditioner in my room because I prolly couldve died lasr night without it! Anyways, last week was a pretty good week at work. I worked a lot on the computer helping the reps with excel spreadheets and making a few of my own on certain styles with descriptions pictures and other info. I was also able to sit in on a few big appointments with lord and Taylor and bloomies too!On Friday I met up with my friend from hs Jonathon who goes to Parsons for fashion design (so jealous!) We met up after work around 5 and I was a complete idiot and forgot to bring sandals to change into and was wearing 4 inch heels for the rest of the night... But that aside we walked from 8th to 5th ave and then walked up 5th past all the beautiful shops making a quick pit stop in Louis vuitton, so beautiful. (side note: when we were looking at the trunks upstairs there was some high roller reclined back in his chair with his feet on the table looking at lv trunks for who knows how much! I was thinking even if I was dishing out that kind of money I wouldn't be putting my feet on the table!) We walked up to central park and walked thru 'the mall' which has been shot in a ton of movies and it is so breathtaking! The trees looked fake and all I could say was this is not real life!

After walking thru CP and being pulled in to volunteer in some street performers show..we figured we weren't going to find anywhere we could eat cheap on the upper east side...gossip girl anyone. So we took the subway down to soho, fav new area as you can tell, and went to one of Jonathons fav restaurants called Bread. The ambience was soooo cool and we had delish tomato soup and bruschetta. Then we were right by little Italy and Jon was craving some gelato so we walked thru the main street which was all lit up and lined with a million restaurants! We were directed to the place with the best gelato and when we walked in I almost fell over. It was purely a Italian dessert restaurant and the items they had were like a picture! I wanted it all! We had the most amazing gelato there of course and then it was too late to take the train so I crashed with him at his friends apartment which had the most unbelievable views!

Beaching and boating of course rounded out the weekend :) So excited about tonight...Premier of Eclipse!!! Team Edward all the way! Tomorrows gonna be a rough morning at work with an estimated 4 hours of sleep but it's totally worth it!

The Unheard Beauties of NYC

So sorry it's been awhile! Nothing epic happened last weekend, just the usual! Although, on Sunday, my uncle was in a fishing tournament and for dinner we cooked up fish that he had caught that morning! Nothing like fresh fish! This week has been pretty slow at work. Got to sit in on a few meetings with buyers which was cool and a definitely learning experience. One of them was with Saks and me and Mimie did a coffee run for them (felt like I was in a movie or something!) idk why but I really enjoy doing little things like that!
My mom drove up on Thursday and we've had the greatest past two days! Yesterday, I got off work at one and mom came up to the office to see everything and actually bought a pair of Joes from the sample sale! I was so proud! Then we went over to Chelsea which is on the West Side and went to this place called the Chelsea market which is like a huge warehouse that has a cobblestone walkway inside and is filled with amazing bakeries, eateries, crafts, and shops, Anthropologie, too! It was so cool and the architecture and decor inside was so unique!
Then in that same are we went to this area called the highline, which was an old elevated train line that was turned in this gorgeous little park and it runs for a good 15 blocks, all elevated, and with GORGEOUS views of the West Shore!
Then we walked all around the Meatpacking district which is where a ton of designers' store are! Stella McCartney is definitely my favorite store there. Again, the architecture and decor in that store is unreal. We took the subway over to Greenwich Village just for a bit and walked down to the Soho area. Went into some really cool boutiques and found this awesome restaurant that Betsy at work had recommended. The food (and presentation) was unbelievable! The restaurant was very modern and open and we got a little table outside that was right next to the side walk (kinda like a little place in paris) :) We walked around that area and saw some really great street vendors.
Thennn, we took the subway up to the Metropolitan Museum of Art b/c they were having an exhibition on "Fashioning the American Woman." It was all about how fashion changed with the American woman's personality from the mid 1800s to the 1920s. It featured all original pieces from each era and explained a ton of background. So cool! By that point it was 9 pm and we had literally been walking all day! But we caught a bus to take us back down to 34th b/c we were at 82nd! But once we got to 58th, it was so beautiful we decided to get off and walk down the famous 5th Ave b/c the weather and sights were perfect. So we walked 24 blocks! back to the train!

It was so great being able to see the areas of New York that most don't know about! So many people think of NYC as being so dirty, and don't get me wrong some of the areas around Penn Station aren't the prettiest, but most of the areas and especially the places we went Friday were so gorgeous. After every place we went, we were like 'That place was so great!' Today, we had A PERFECT DAY AT THE BEACH :) Sorry for the long post haha! hope you enjoy!
